Barbados Veterinary Services? More Like Butcher Shop, Tweetie is Not Coming Home.

I think this is where animals go to die in Barbados.

I think this is where animals go to die in Barbados.

I’m usually not negative…today might be a little different. After searching the Internets for a bit I found this peculiar website for “Veterinary Services” on the island of Barbados.

I didn’t know much about Barbados but after a little digging we found it’s not your average Caribbean island nation. Fueled mainly by the sugar industry and tourism, Barbados has a nice little thing going on. Good infrastructure, and consistently ranked in the top 75 nations of the world on the “Human Development Index” that helps grade if countries are swimming or sinking. This one is swimming, that’s a good thing, it’s an island. It’s flag has an f’ing trident on it, that’s badass! (thanks wikipedia)

However, based on this website, I’m going to say this is an inappropriate use of Copperplate (GASP!). The pictures they use are a little suspect, I would venture to say that the “Veterinary Services” is where animals go to die. The pale green doesn’t help, it creates the sense of sickness and perpetuates  unsettling feelings of the sun isn’t going to shine tomorrow. The overall layout of the site doesn’t really add to the whole feeling that little Johnny is going to get the answer he wants to the question, “Mom, Dad, Is Tweetie is going to get better after we take him to the Vet in Barbados?!?!”

Bringing your meat in a suitcase to Barbados might be smart.

Bringing your meat in a suitcase to Barbados might be smart.

I can’t say I’m too inspired from the links right below their “logo” which include resources for “bringing meat and meat products in personal luggage to Barbados”. If they would stop eating their sick and dying animals from the “Vet” they might not encourage visitors to bring their own cuts of meat and poultry into the country.

So maybe this post isn’t negative, maybe it’s a positive wrapped up in a negative.

Free advice and suggestions to the fair people of the island of Barbados:

  • Please don’t use Copperplate Gothic Bold to promote your sick animal eating program
  • Please stop eating your animals
  • Please stop encouraging visitors to bring their own meat into the country
  • Try a darker green, blue, or any color other than pale green, yellows. oranges or the like to promote your Veterinary Services
  • Use images that are larger, more focused, not that could be mistaken for cuts of beef…after the animal has passed…shady…I don’t expect this from you, only shady Chinese food restaurants

I'll Take The "Daily Special" *wink*

So cheer up Barbados, it isn’t all too bad. You’ve found a way to be greener, recycling limited resources on an island nation is important. With a few fixes you can promote the message that you are hoping to intend. You can always use Comic Sans or Kablam! for other fonts to promote your services. Remember to “Vet” new content before posting.
