Helvetica Sucks, We’ve Fixed It. Here’s How.

Thursday, December 31st, 2009 | Courtesy Redesigns, Education | 4 Comments

Best Font Ever, Copperplate Gothic BoldWe were looking through the pipes that make up the internet and found this lovely graphic from someone over at Typophile. The original image and article said that Helvetica was the best font of all time. After reading this blatant falsehood and throwing up a little in our mouths, we set out to correcting this debate once and for all.

To the left we’ve professionally redesigned the authors original attempt at being cute with some real deal fancymaking by taking the word “Helvetica” which was set in itself. What a dumb idea.

We’ve taken a dumb idea and done a 180 degree turnaround by putting Helvetica in Copperplate Gothic Bold. Look at how much better the design looks after the transformation. So maybe Helvetica is the best word to use for showcasing the Best Font Ever, Copperplate Gothic Bold. Don’t cry Helvetica, it’s ok, Copperplate made it better!

JMU Homecoming 2007 No CGB???

JMU Homecoming 2007 no CGB!?!

JMU Homecoming 2007 no CGB!?!

Homecoming is a very special event for those who attended JMU. Not only because it’s a blast, you get to reconnect with and network with alumni who shared the common bond of the same JMU experience.

While looking for a graphic that would sum up the JMU experience, I was unable to find a Copperplate Gothic Bold sighting for a JMU site. This brought me much dismay and sadness. Rather than let it get to me that CGB isn’t in the branding kit, I decided to create my own piece of CGB history, the official Copperplate Gothic Bold JMU Homecoming 2007 Badge.

This graphic will not only bring the football team good luck but it will also bless my 12×12 tent, beer-pong size replica football table, 2 captains chairs, lil’ Weber Grille and all those who partake in the wonder of our tailgate. I can only hope that this will inspire the school to rethink their position on Copperplate Gothic Bold, not only because CGB offers the feel of a sans-serif with the believability of a serifed but because it is awesome. Go Dukes and Go Bold!

The Best Paper Gets You Hammered!!!

Hammermill is definitely trendy and getting it done with CGB!

Hammermill is definitely trendy and getting it done with CGB!

Oh you don’t come around an example like this very often. If you’ve ever used paper you understand that it’s everywhere and there is a lot of it, but there is a lot of crap paper out there. Chances are you probably don’t use nice paper, or have experienced the vitality and understated elegance that it can bring to the textural experience. Great paper can really make my day and I love 28lb Hammermill, almost as much as Copperplate Gothic Bold!

I love it because it’s heavy duty, people realize it’s not the same crap their used to and having the extra whiteness can really add dynamicism to whatever you print on it. That’s why they chose Copperplate Gothic Bold for their design. Not only did they choose it, they went “BAM!!!!” and kicked it up a notch.

If you look closely the E in Hammermill has been modified to not only incorporate the idea of the International Paper logo, but also to add motion to the design. International Paper should get a Nobel Peace prize for bringing peace and beauty to their designs on top of producing, quite frankly, the best paper in the world. So keep at it Hammermill, bring me more Copperplate, more paper, and keep dropping the Hammer on all the other wannabe papers out there.

Obama Courtesy Redesign!!!

Free courtesy redesign for the Obama campaign to help them win, every little bit helps. Copperplate can bring it home.

Free courtesy redesign for the Obama campaign to help them win, every little bit helps. Copperplate can bring it home.

We generally stay a-political but in this case we had to do a redesign for Obama and friends.

After reading a post on digg about how he is using “A Font We Can Believe In” “Greatest Font Ever” we had to respond with just how false their observations are.

Gotham is not half the font that Copperplate Gothic Bold is. Little known fact is when Obama was starting out he personally called us to ask if he could use Copperplate Gothic Bold for his political campaign. We were delighted that he would choose the right font for the right job.

Much to our disappointment they roll out this crap with Gotham and whatnot. It’s not even a real font, created on a whim by a bunch of GQ magazine hooligans. Everyone knows magazines are simply goofy things that no one cares about.

We do care about Obama, we do care about his campaign and we believe that Obama can do better and make the right “change.”

Copperplate instills strength, believability, and can ensure that his campaign achieves what they are shooting for. We have the source files anytime you are ready.
